Say, is that a groundhog? No! It’s a beaver. I’m working on a logo for the Urban Streams Alliance, and this is one of the ideas we are tossing around right now. The others involve a kingfisher or dragonfly, both animals that conjure up sunny, buzzing streamside images for me.

Believe it or not, there are beavers living in many urban streams.  I have seen the beavers in Martinez, CA, in fact. You can find out more about them at their website: http://www.martinezbeavers.org/.

I just learned that groundhogs can also be known as ground-beavers. But alas, there are no groundhogs to be seen in these parts, with or without a shadow…
